Peacock Plans Live-Action “Casper” Series

Peacock Plans Live Action Casper Series
Universal Pictures

Peacock is reportedly developing a dark reimagining of Casper the Friendly Ghost in the form of a live-action horror/adventure series that will serve as a coming-of-age origin story.

The story begins when a new family arrives in the small town of Eternal Falls, and Casper finds himself entangled in a mystery uncovering dark secrets that have been buried for over a century.

The series will be penned and executive produced by Kai Yu Wu who serves as head writer on “The Ghost Bride” and has worked on such shows as “Hannibal” and “The Flash”. UCP and DreamWorks Animation are teaming to produce.

The property began life as animated movies in the 1940s and 50s before becoming a famed comic strip and multiple cartoon series. Universal released a live-action feature in 1995 using CG ghosts, the same is expected for this new series.
