Having just played the younger incarnation of Ryan Reynolds in Netflix’s “The Adam Project” film, young actor Walker Scobell has now landed the title role in the Disney+ series adaptation of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” novels.
The story follows a twelve-year-old boy who learns that he is a demigod and soon is accused by Zeus of stealing his master’s lightning bolt. Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.
20th Television is producing the Disney Branded Television series which will be far closer to the books than the previous so-so received film adaptations in 2010 and 2013 which aged up the characters. The series also sees Riordan more closely involved and writing the pilot with Jon Steinberg (“Black Sails”) along with serving as an executive producer.
James Bobin (“The Mysterious Benedict Society”) is directing the first episode for the show which received a series order in January and is slated to begin filming this Summer.
