Coda Win Led To An Apple Tv Surge

With “CODA” having won Best Picture at the Oscars last weekend, it comes as little surprise that the win has seen a surge in sign-ups for the Apple TV+ streaming service where the film exclusively resides.

A new report indicates the win produced immediate results with subscriptions to Apple TV+ jumping 25% while viewing of the film went up by more than 300% compared with the week prior.

Apple has never disclosed how many subscribers it has for its service so it’s not clear how that translates into real numbers.

Apple offers a free seven-day trial so there’s a question of how many of those new subscribers will remain with the service for a meaningful period of time or how many will explore other content ranging from “Ted Lasso” and “For All Mankind” to “Severance” and the just-launched “Slow Horses”.

Apple acquired rights to “CODA” out of Sundance for $25 million, and in doing so became the first streaming service to win the top Oscar.
