George R. R. Martin, the author whose “A Song of Ice and Fire” books served as the basis of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” has spoken about the latter’s upcoming spin-off series “House of the Dragon”.
Despite the misgivings that many had with the final season of ‘Thrones,’ Martin himself included, excitement is high for the spin-off series. The author, writing on his blog, spoke about the new series which stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke and Rhys Ifans among others:
“I am anticipating HOUSE OF THE DRAGON pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth. Okay, I am hardly objective. And I know a lot of what you will be seeing. (I, um, wrote the book).
Also … mum’s the word now, don’t tell anyone… I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy. I think the Targaryens are in very good hands. Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed.”
The new series takes place a few centuries before the events of ‘Thrones’ which shows the Targaryen family at the height of its power. Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik serve as showrunners on the series which will premiere on HBO in 2022.
The comments come as HBO Max made Apptopia’s list of the 10 most downloaded apps of 2021 in the U.S. with around 45 million downloads over a year’s span. To put that in comparison, YouTube had 47 million downloads for the same period.
