In the wake of the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” the whole “Star Wars” sequel trilogy has seemingly been reassessed across the online space.
Despite its box-office success, all three films have been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism ranging from pandering too much to fans (‘Force Awakens’), to not catering to them enough (‘Last Jedi’), to haphazardly tying things up (‘Rise of Skywalker’).
Even the trilogy’s stars seemed over the experience by the time of the ‘Skywalker’ press rounds, but there are still fans of several of the trilogy’s characters like Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron.
One such fan is Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy who, speaking to Empire, says discussions are underway about some of the sequel trilogy characters popping up again in the future:
“Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget. They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well.”
Which ones though? Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver are two of the most in-demand actors in the world right now with very busy schedules, John Boyega has been quite vocal about his displeasure with the handling of the Finn character, and both Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran have moved on from the franchise.
While that’s not clear right now, Kennedy has been getting excited about the reunion between prequel trilogy stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen on the set of the “Obi-Wan” TV series which is expected to air next year:
“The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited. They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realizing how important ‘Star Wars’ was to each of them. It was the beginning of their careers.”
The discussion comes in the wake of the ‘indefinite delay’ of the next planned “Star Wars” film “Rogue Squadron” and questions over the future of the franchise on film.
