Garfield Is “Done” With Spidey Speculation

For months now, actor Andrew Garfield has found himself on the end of variations of the same question over and over – namely is he going to appear as his earlier incarnation of Peter Parker in the Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.

Garfield has quite adamantly denied he’s in the film on multiple occasions, but every answer he gives has been met with scepticism (at best) from not just Marvel fans but journalists, bloggers and more.

Not helping has been ‘leaked’ photos that seem to show him on-set but shots that could also be Photoshop. Things were fueled even more by the Brazilian cut of last week’s trailer which included an alternate shot of a fight sequence with three villains and one of them seemingly being hit by an invisible punch.

Unlike his other rumored co-star Tobey Maguire who has stayed off the publicity circuit, Garfield has had to be out there to promote both “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” and his acclaimed turn in the just-released “tick, tick…Boom!” and so can’t escape the incessant questioning.

In a recent video from GQ, who selected him as one of their men of the year, the actor remained cheerful but obviously has hit a point of being over it all:

“Listen, at this point…I’m done. We’ll all find out when the movie comes out, and we’ll either be very disappointed or we’ll be very happy or someone will say, ‘I told you so,’ and another person will be like, ‘No, I told you so.’ We’ll all find out. I’m sorry in advance.”

The frustration is understandable. If he’s not in the film, he’s telling the truth but no-one will listen. If he is in the film, he can’t say and so has to deflect. Both possibilities make the question redundant but he keeps being asked anyway.

One thing he is happier to talk about is the Spider-Man suits and which one he likes the best, he puts Holland’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” as the best though is a fan of his own suit from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”.

Holland meanwhile spoke with the outlet about how ‘No Way Home’ underwent extensive re-writes – even while filming – due to them not locking down certain actors:

“Some people were trying to figure out whether they wanted to do it, and we needed all of them or none… You could ask the director, ‘What happens in act three?’ And his response would be, ‘I’m still trying to figure it out.'”

Whether Garfield is in the film or not, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” will open in cinemas on December 17th.
