Matrix Star Stays Vague About Morpheus
Warner Bros. Pictures

“Aquaman” and “Candyman” actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be seen this December in Lana Wachowski’s “The Matrix Resurrections” in the role of Morpheus.

That character was previously played by Laurence Fishburne in the original trilogy, but Fishburne isn’t involved in the new film even as his co-stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are.

Recently Abdul-Mateen was asked by British GQ about his character and how he might connect to Fishburne’s character. He does confirm “the character’s called Morpheus” and when asked if he had talked to Fishburne about it he says: “By the time this interview comes out, I would have. I want to.”

In the franchise’s canon, the tie-in video game “The Matrix Online” painted Morpheus as dead following the events of the last film, when asked about that the actor says: “It will make sense when it comes out.”

“The Matrix Resurrections” opens on December 22nd in theaters and on HBO Max.
