In the wake of the success of Capcom’s “Resident Evil 2” remake, the obvious question arose as to when publisher Konami would do the same for their “Silent Hill” franchise.
Finally it seems something may be happening. VideoGamesChronicle has published a report indicating that according to its sources, Konami is getting back into proper game development and is working on a remasters, remakes, and new installments in its three major franchises – “Metal Gear Solid,” “Castlevania” and “Silent Hill”.
The report indicates a remake of 2004’s “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater” is one of the big ones coming in the near future with China-based Virtuos games developing that project. Virtuos has worked on a bunch of ports in their time ranging from “The Last of Us: Remastered” and “Horizon Zero Dawn” to “Battlefield V” and “Rise of the Tomb Raider”.
Konami is also allegedly planning remasters of the “Metal Gear Solid” games for consoles, remasters that will come out prior to MGS3, but it’s not clear which ones. The now Sony-owned Bluepoint Games released a “Metal Gear Solid 2”, “Metal Gear Solid 3” and “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker” remaster collection in 2011.
Multiple “Silent Hill” games are reportedly in development, one hailing from “The Medium” and “Layers of Fear” developer Bloober Team. Another is said to be from “a mysterious Japanese studio”.
“Castlevania” meanwhile is being “reimagined” by an internal team at Konami with some help from the outside. No other details are available.
The report is a rumor for now, and should it be true there’s no word on when any of these games might appear on platforms.
