Tom Cruise keeps upping the game with the various “Mission: Impossible” films, the action calling for wilder and wilder practical stunts.
The productions utilise some of the best safety and stunt people in the world, nevertheless much of this stuff is still potentially dangerous – especially that done by Cruise himself.
As part of Empire magazine’s cover story on the upcoming seventh film in the franchise, Cruise says one specific stunt is the most dangerous of his career to date. Cruise talked about all the potential hazards of the scene, which involves a motorbike driving on a ramp and over a cliff with Cruise then parachuting away:
“If the wind was too strong, it would blow me off the ramp. The helicopter [filming the stunt] was a problem because I didn’t want to be hammering down that ramp at top speed and get hit by a stone. Or if I departed in a weird way, we didn’t know what was going to happen with the bike. I had about six seconds once I departed the ramp to pull the chute and I don’t want to get tangled in the bike. If I do, that’s not going to end well.”
Footage of the stunt was captured back in September which you can see below. The new film is currently on track for a May 2022 release.
