Starz’s troubled fantasy series “American Gods” has been cancelled after three seasons.
The premium cabler said in a statement issued yesterday: “American Gods will not return for a fourth season. Everyone at Starz is grateful to the dedicated cast and crew, and our partners at Fremantle who brought author and executive producer Neil Gaiman’s ever-relevant story to life that speaks to the cultural climate of our country.”
However, the company is also reportedly in talks with producers Fremantle for a potential event series or movie that would wrap up the story.
The news comes a week after the show’s season three finale and follows on from the show’s famously troubled production history (four showrunners in three years) and a ratings slide with the recent third season dropping off 65% of its audience as compared to the first season.
