HBO Max has released the second official trailer for “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” the clip coming just days ahead of the film’s launch.
The same day also sees the remastered “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” arrive with the three-hour ‘Ultimate Edition’ of that film now in the same IMAX aspect ratio on select scenes and with enhanced color so the two films should look more comparable.
The clips come as Snyder has given a new interview with The New York Times in which he discusses the topic of the sequels which won’t get made.
Snyder planned “Justice League” as a trilogy originally. That didn’t happen and so both James Wan’s “Aquaman” and Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984” work on the premise that Joss Whedon’s theatrical cut of “Justice League” is canon and go from there – as does the upcoming “The Flash”.
However according to Snyder and some critics who’ve seen the Snyder cut version early, the events of it are contradictory to those subsequent films which don’t work if the Snyder cut is ‘canon’. Indeed the Snyder cut ends with a sequel setup that’s never going to come and Snyder is adamant this is his last DC movie:
“I added it [the sequel stinger] because this was going to be the last movie I make for the DCU, and to have this entire cinematic universe without Batman and Joker meeting up just felt weird… The ask was for my version of the movie.”
“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” arrives on the HBO Max service on March 18th.
