ViacomCBS has launched Avatar Studios, a whole new division dedicated to reviving and expanding the world of the acclaimed animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and its follow-up “The Legend of Korra’.
The division is expected to create series and movie projects based on the property in the future with the show’s original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko serving as co-chief creative officers of the new venture.
The first project will be an animated feature film set to begin production later this year, with additional details to be announced later.
Whilst both shows were acclaimed at the time, the series’ fanbase has “grown at least tenfold in popularity since their original hit runs” says ViacomCBS Kids & Family president Brian Robbins.
Content from Avatar Studios will debut on the Paramount+ service and on Nickelodeon’s linear and digital platforms as well as third-party outlets and in theaters.
