Flanagan’s “Midnight Mass” Wraps Shoot

“Doctor Sleep” and “Oculus” director Mike Flanagan has revealed that his latest Netflix horror series “Midnight Mass” has finished filming.

In the seven-episode series, an isolated island community experiences miraculous events – and frightening omens – after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest.

The project began prep in December and was just days away from shooting when filming everywhere was shut down in March because of the pandemic. Prep resumed in July and filming began August 17th.

Ultimately the production was shot uninterrupted over 83 days. COVID safety protocols were “thorough, scientific, and strictly enforced,” says Flanagan and as a result, they did not shut down once or miss a single day of production.

He adds that “I do not say this lightly – this has been the best production experience of my career” and thanked his cast and crew for their efforts. He adds the series will be the “most personal story I’ve ever told”.

Robert Longstreet, Annabeth Gish, Henry Thomas, Michael
Trucco, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Abburi, Matt Biedel, Crystal Balint, Alex Essoe and Kristin Lehman co-star in what marks the fifth collaboration between Flanagan and Netflix following the films “Hush” and “Gerald’s Game” along with the limited series “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor”.
