A while back HBO was developing multiple prequels to their big-budget fantasy series “Game of Thrones” which wrapped its run after eight seasons last year.
One spin-off set multiple millennia before that show was scrapped, however another set around three centuries before ‘Thrones’ and entitled “House of the Dragon” is going forward.
HBO Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys recently spoke with Variety about that prequel spin-off and confirmed it wouldn’t be the only spinoff that they will be producing:
“Those are fantastic properties that are decades and decades old. I don’t know that it would get that big, but certainly, it is a great resource that we have and an amazing world. So I don’t think it’s just going to be the one [show] for the rest of its life.”
Asked if “House of the Dragon” might hit HBO Max first before it hits their premium network when the show arrives in 2022, Bloys admits it’s not decided at this point.
The show will chronicle the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. Shooting begins in a few months in the UK.
The talk comes as HBO Max has released a new teaser showing off some of its 2021 slate including a first look at the Joss Whedon-created “The Nevers”.
