Simu Liu has set his first project following wrapping filming in the title role on Marvel Studios’ “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” as the actor is attached to join Mark Wahlberg in the Simon Cellan Jones-directed adventure feature “Arthur the King” at eOne and Tucker Tooley Entertainment.
Inspired by a true story, the story follows the captain of a Swedish adventure racing team who met and befriended a wounded stray dog during a 400-mile race through the Ecuadoran jungle.
The pair crossed rivers and battled illness and injury through some of the world’s toughest terrain. Wahlberg will play the Swedish adventurer, while Liu will play the role of Liam.
Ali Suliman and Rob Collins have also joined the cast. Regular Wahlberg collaborator Baltasar Kormakur was slated to direct but exited due to scheduling conflicts. Michael Brandt adapted the script from Mikael Lindnord’s book.
Filming is set to begin in January in the Dominican Republic.
