British actress Naomi Ackie (“Lady Macbeth,” “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”) has been chosen to play iconic pop singer Whitney Houston in the biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” for TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures.
Houston remains the most awarded female music artist of all time, selling more than 200 million records worldwide along with winning six Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards and two Emmy Awards.
Stella Meghie (“The Photograph”) will direct the project which has backing from the Whitney Houston estate and music producer Clive Davis. With their backing, the movie will use the singer’s catalog including her vocals.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” scribe Anthony McCarten penned the screenplay and the film is set for Thanksgiving 2022 release.
