“Dark Knight,” “Shrek” Join The Film Registry

The Library of Congress’ National Film Registry has announced its annual list of twenty-five motion pictures picked to be preserved for future generations.

Nine movies helmed by women and seven by people of color were included in this list which includes iconic works from Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan, Kathryn Bigelow, Wayne Wang and Wim Wenders along with a Charlie Chaplin short, an iconic musical, a famed documentary and more.

The 25 films that made the 2020 list are:

“The Battle of the Century,” “The Blues Brothers,” “Bread,” “Buena Vista Social Club,” “Cabin in the Sky,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Devil Never Sleeps,” “Freedom Riders,” “Grease,” “The Ground,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Illusions,” “The Joy Luck Club,” “Kid Auto Races at Venice,” “Lilies of the Field,” “Losing Ground,” “The Man with the Golden Arm,” “Mauna Kea: Temple Under Siege,” “Outrage,” “Shrek,” “Suspense,” “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song,” “Wattstax,” and “With Car and Camera Around the World”

Starting at 5pm US-PST on Tuesday, TCM will screen a selection of the motion pictures named. This year were more than 5,500 titles nominated by the public were considered. Nominations for 2021 will be accepted here.
