Disney’s investor conference continues today with the live-action Disney feature announcements today – most of which were already known but in quite a few cases are now finally confirmed. All will go straight to the Disney+ service.
Perhaps the biggest news was a hybrid live-action-animated “Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers” feature from the Lonely Island team behind “Popstar” film. That will be directed by Akiva Schaffer and will star comedians John Mulaney and Andy Samberg.
Sequels galore coming – “Hocus Pocus 2” is confirmed with Adam Shankman directing. “Sister Act 3” is on the way with Whoopi Goldberg returning to star in and produce while Tyler Perry also produces. “Disenchanted,” a sequel to “Enchanted,” is also on the way with Amy Adams returning as Giselle.
Next, David Lowery’s “Peter Pan and Wendy” will be coming to the service and stars Jude Law as Captain Hook and Yara Shahidi as Tinkerberll. Same with Robert Zemeckis’ live-action “Pinocchio” starring Tom Hanks as Gepetto.
There’s also a prequel to the live-action “The Lion King” in development from Barry Jenkins, an animated reimagining of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” a Kenya Barris-produced “Cheaper by the Dozen” reboot starring Gabrielle Union, and a remake of “Three Men and a Baby” starring Zac Efron.
