“Star Wars” alum Daisy Ridley is set to star while Joachim Ronning (“Kon-Tiki,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) will direct the Jeff Nathanson-scripted “Young Woman and the Sea” feature for the Disney+ service.
The story is based on the book by Glenn Stout and chronicles the daring journey of Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Ederle, the daughter of a German butcher from Manhattan and competitive swimmer who won gold in the 1924 Olympics.
Then she decided to attempt crossing the English Channel, the first woman to ever swim across the 21 mile stretch of sea which she did in 1926. Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman are producing.
