Ben Affleck is in talks to star in the George Clooney-directed adaptation of J.R. Moehringer memoir “The Tender Bar” at Amazon Studios.
The book deals with Moehringer’s growing up in Long Island seeking out father figures among the patrons at his uncle’s bar. The project was originally was set up Sony with Ted Melfi directing.
Clooney previously produced Oscar winner “Argo” which Affleck starred in, produced and directed. The pair have been trying to work together again, this time in a more involved capacity, for years.
William Monahan (“Kingdom of Heaven,” “The Departed”) penned the script, and Clooney and Grant Heslov would produce alongside Ted Hope. It’s unknown whether Clooney will also appear in the film.
Affleck will soon be seen in “Deep Water,” “The Last Duel,” “Hypnotic” and is gearing up to direct the ‘making of Chinatown’ feature “The Big Goodbye”.
