Plans for filming in Malta for much of the next month on “Jurassic World: Dominion,” with hundreds of cast and crew sent to the location, have been scrapped.
Local reports have indicated that four cases of COVID-19 amongst the crew that was supposed to work on the island, with those cases coming after the entirety of Malta is suffering a spike in cases.
As a result, Universal Pictures is taking it extra cautious and changing up its plans. None of the main stars like Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Sam Neill will be going, and the studio is cutting the number of traveling crew members by 50%.
As a result, only the second-unit will be on hand to film over the next month on the island. The new “Jurassic World” film is one of the first major blockbusters to go back into production after being shut down for several months due to COVID-19.
It’s not clear how first-unit filming will be impacted and how the production will adapt to the change at present. For now, “Jurassic World: Dominion” remains on track for a June 11th 2021 release.
