Disney+ has announced “The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special,” a new animated special directly inspired by the infamous 1978 “Star Wars Holiday Special” which aired on CBS in 1978 on the same day the new special launches – November 17th.
Set after the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” the special continues the partnership between Lucasfilm and Lego of making tongue-in-cheek animated versions of “Star Wars” with LEGO figures and blocks.
Several actors will reprise their roles for the special, but it’s unclear whether Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, or Kelly Marie Tran are participating. The original 90-minute special, which featured numerous musical numbers from the likes of Bea Arthur and Jefferson Starship, was so poorly received it has only ever been available again in bootleg form.
Ken Cunningham (“Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar”) helms “The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special” which was penned by David Shayne (“Lego Star Wars: All-Stars”).
