Sony Plans “Who’s The Boss” Sequel Series

Famed ABC 1980s sitcom “Who’s the Boss” is getting a revival with Sony Pictures Television officially developing a sequel series.

Not only that, Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano are on board to reprise their iconic roles as Tony and Samantha Micelli – the father/daughter relationship the pair build over an eight season 196 episode run from 1984-1992.

The new show will take place three decades later and again follow former major-league baseball player/retired housekeeper Tony Micelli and his relationship with his daughter Samantha who is now a single mother and living in the house the original series was set in.

The new comedy will explore generational differences, as well as opposing world views and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2020.

Original cast members Judith Light (Angela) and Danny Pintauro (Jonathan) have given their support and the hope is to find a way to work them and their characters into the show. Sadly Katherine Helmond, who played Mona, won’t return as she passed away just last year.

At one time the series averaged over 33 million live viewers per episode and was a major hit both in U.S. and international syndication. Classic half-hour comedies from past decades remain comfort food on streaming where shows like “Friends,” “The Office” and “Seinfeld” are major draws while “Fuller House” and “Will and Grace” have shown how successful revivals can be.

The project will be shopped to buyers with the opportunity to also license the 196 episodes of the original series.
