The latest episode of Kevin Smith’s Fatman Beyond podcast (via Bleeding Cool) has shed some light on the current state of how his revival of the 1980s animated series classic “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” is going.
Smith was previously announced as showrunner on “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” a Netflix series that will serve as a direct sequel to the original cartoon.
Smith, speaking ahead of the Comic Con @ Home celebrations, says he did recording today remotely for the show and has been doing said recordings one by one. He’s a big fan of “Game of Thrones” actress Lena Headey who plays Evil-Lyn in the series:
The other day, we finished Lena Headey’s stuff, which was awesome. She’s over in the UK, so it was early in the morning for us, like 8 a.m. but whatever time it is over there. I could just listen to her all f—ing day long, man. She just brings it and chews that f—ing dialogue and makes it so good. Think of anyone in your life, have them say ‘wretched,’ and she beats them.
Stephen Root finished up all of his Cringer stuff, absolutely wonderful. We finished Chris Wood and all the He-Man/Prince Adam stuff. We finished up Sarah Michelle Gellar for all the Teela stuff and today was like all Mark [Hamill]. All of the Skeletor stuff is now recorded. I’ve heard now all of the scripts brought to life. I’ve heard the last line of the show, so it’s been fantastic.”
The series is led by Chris Wood as Prince Adam, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela and Liam Cunningham as Man-At-Arms.
Others starring include Griffin Newman as Orko, Diedrich Bader as King Randor, Alicia Silverstone as Queen Marlena, and Susan Eisenberg as Sorceress. “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” is likely to premiere in 2021.
