“The Crown” S5 Won’t Hit Until 2022

Left Bank Pictures have confirmed they won’t begin shooting the next season of “The Crown” until June next year and so won’t be premiering the fifth season of the series until 2022.

The filming break has always reportedly been part of the production schedule, not due to the coronavirus pandemic, but those involved acknowledged the hiatus has been well timed. The sixth and final season will then shoot in 2022 for a release in 2023.

Imelda Staunton will take over from Olivia Colman in the role of Queen Elizabeth II for the remaining two seasons, while Lesley Manville is replacing Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret. More cast changeover announcements will be slowly revealed in coming months.

The fourth season arrives later this year and will be set across the 1980s with Gillian Anderson playing Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, while Emma Corrin’s Princess Diana will have a pivotal role as she marries Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor).
