Focus Acquires Schrader’s “Card Counter”

Focus Features has acquired Paul Schrader’s “The Card Counter” starring Oscar Isaac, Tye Sheridan, Tiffany Haddish and Willem Dafoe.

The revenge thriller has just completed its final days of filming in Mississippi – the production was originally shut down in March due to the pandemic with less than a week of filming to go.

Isaac plays William Tell, a man whose spartan existence on the casino trail is shattered when he is approached by Cirk (Sheridan), a vulnerable and angry young man seeking help to execute his plan for revenge on a military colonel.

Along with a mysterious financier, the trio set their sights on winning the World Series of poker in Las Vegas. However, things get difficult when Tell realizes that trying to keep Cirk on the right path proves to be an impossible task as he gets dragged back into the darkness of his past.

Martin Scorsese has signed on as an executive producer while Braxton Pope and Lauren Mann are producing.
