Still one of Netflix’s biggest successes in recent years was “Bird Box,” the horror thriller starring Sandra Bullock about a world where people are driven to insanity and suicide after looking at unseen creatures outside. As a result, survivors are forced to wear blindfolds at all times.
Josh Malerman, the author of the book that inspired the film, says the streaming giant is now working on a sequel. Speaking with Inverse.com about the sequel novel “Malorie” arriving later this month, he reveals a follow-up is already in the works.
Malerman says: “I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development. Sometimes it’s weird, all this secrecy, but I’m game.” Nothing has officially been announced by the streamer as yet.
The book picks up over a decade after the events of the first novel and continues the story of the Malorie character who rowed up the river to safety. It’s then Malorie has allowed herself to hope – someone dear to her, someone she believed dead, may be alive.
