“Westworld” Creators Plan “Fallout” TV Series

After months of dealmaking, Amazon Studios has licensed the rights to the “Fallout” video game franchise for “Westworld” showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy to develop into a TV series.

This marks the first major project to come out the pair’s large overall deal with Amazon Studios and will be produced by Kilter Films, Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks.

The post-apocalyptic role-playing video game series is set during the 22nd and 23rd centuries with an “atompunk retro-futuristic setting” and art work influenced by the post-war culture of 1950s United States.

The harshness of the wasteland is set against the previous generation’s utopian idea of a better world through nuclear energy. Though serious in tone, it has satirical elements of ironic humor and B-movie-nuclear-fantasies.

The franchise has posted record sales and received dozens of Game of the Year awards. The TV series project has received a series commitment and will be executive produced by the pair along with Athena Wickham, Todd Howard and James Altman.
