IFC Films has announced they will release Michael Almerevda’s biographical drama “Tesla,” starring Ethan Hawke, in cinemas and on demand on August 21st. Hawke plays inventor Nikola Tesla as he fights an uphill battle to bring his revolutionary electrical system to fruition.
Increasingly displeased by the greed of fellow inventor Thomas Edison (Kyle MacLachlan), Tesla forges his own virtuous but arduous path toward creating the innovative alternate-current motor. Eve Hewson, Jim Gaffigan, Josh Hamilton and Lucy Walters co-star. [Source: IFC Films]
Spencer
Neon (“Parasite”) and Topic Studios has scored U.S. domestic rights to Pablo Larrain’s biographical drama “Spencer” starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana. The story centers on a weekend in the early 1990s when Diana decided to separate from Prince Charles. Filming is expected to begin in early 2021. [Source: Variety]
The Come Up
Oscar-winning filmmaker Matthew A. Cherry (“Hair Love”) will direct the original comedy “The Come Up” as his next feature for New Line. Cherry signed a multi-year, first-look deal with Warner Bros Television last week – nder that deal he will develop and produce new material for a variety of platforms.
Michael Starrbury (“When They See Us”) penned the script dubbed “Friday meets Oceans 11” and based on an idea from Jermaine Fowler. Fowler also stars alongside Lil Rel Howery, Keith Lucas and Kenneth Lucas. [Source: Deadline]
The Ice Man
Joseph Fiennes will star in Genesius Pictures’ “The Ice Man,” a biopic about Dutch extreme athlete Wim Hof who was famed for breaking several records relating to cold exposure,including climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and running a half marathon above the Arctic Circle barefoot. River of Time
Award-winning AFP correspondent Lawrence Osborne will adapt Jon Swain’s Vietnam War-era 1997 memoir “River of Time” into a feature for Indochina Productions. Swain witnessed the Cambodian genocide and covered Vietnam and Cambodia from 1970-1975 – becoming a key figure among the war correspondents based in the city. [Source: Variety]
