Barry Jenkins Pens “Virunga” Narrative Remake

“Moonlight” and “If Beale Street Could Talk” director Barry Jenkins is teaming with Leonardo DiCaprio for a scripted narrative feature film adaptation of Orlando von Einsiedel’s Oscar-nominated feature documentary “Virunga”.

The original documentary follows rangers that are risking their lives in Africa’s national park to protect some of the last mountain gorillas in the world. Jenkins has signed on to write the script for the new film which, like the original doco, will be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way label.

Jenkins is currently finishing up his long-awaited “Underground Railroad” series for Amazon, which he wrote and directed. He’s next expected to work on a biopic about famed choreographer Alvin Ailey.
