Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” beat out Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” at the U.S. box-office over the Father’s Day weekend.
Both films scored re-releases in the few open cinemas and drive-thrus in the country with ‘Jurassic’ clocking up $517,600 at 230 theater locations, while “Jaws” pulled in $516,300 from 187 locations.
They weren’t the only Spielberg films in the Top 10 at the box-office this week either. His “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” was in there, as were two films he famously produced – Robert Zemeckis’ “Back to the Future” and Richard Donner’s “The Goonies”.
In its initial run, “Jurassic Park” stayed at No. 1 at the box office for three weeks, while “Jaws” did so for fourteen weeks.
