Warner Bros. Pictures has debuted a new photo from an early scene in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” as Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atredies trains with knives at his home on Caladan in this highly anticipated first feature of a two-film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel.
In the book, the scene sees Paul is preparing for his family’s big move to the desert planet Arrakis and engaged in a training session with Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin).
Speaking with Empire Online who premiered the image, Villeneuve compares Paul’s journey with Michael Corleone as in “someone that has a very tragic fate and he will become something that he was not wishing to become.”
In the film Paul’s survival depends on “being able to make the right decisions and adapt to different dangerous situations. It’s a very beautiful story about someone that becomes empowered.”
“Dune” is currently targeting a December 18th release.
