Following their collaboration on “Capone” which just came out on VOD this week, filmmaker Josh Trank and actor Tom Hardy are looking to work together again – this time on a limited series.
Speaking with Collider recently, “Chronicle” and “Fantastic Four” director Trank spoke about his come back vehicle with “Capone” which has Hardy offering a wild performance as the mobster near the end of his life. Reviews have been mixed/poor but are an improvement over his failed Marvel venture.
The pair also apparently developed a close friendship while making the film which has led to Trank developing this new project:
“I’m working on this limited series that Tom Hardy is producing and that he’s involved in and he’s very excited about, and I’m excited about, [and it’s] a story that spans decades, from right at the end of World War II and concerning the formation of the CIA, but from a point of view that hasn’t really been seen in a movie or in television before, and is just mentioned in books.
It deals a lot with Castro and Cuba, and capitalism versus Communism. It’s really big. Sort of the, you know, capitalism versus communism. It’s really big. It’s really good. It’s interesting, it’s dangerous and it’s fascinating. The things I’m learning from it, it lends so much big commentary and parallel to how we ended up where we are now, and I’m fascinated by those things.”
Trank also confirmed that Hardy intends to star in the limited series, not an unusual occurance following a lead in “Taboo” and a role on “Peaky Blinders” which both landed at FX. The new project has not setup a home as yet.
