It’s that week of the year again with the major networks unveiling their new series for this Fall.
This year things are very different though as the coronavirus pandemic has grounded almost all filming to a halt. With the upfronts presentations cancelled and ‘pilot season’ decimated, FOX has issued a press release announcing its Fall slate and it’s light on much in the way of new fare.
In fact FOX is playing it completely COVID-19 safe, the only shows it will premiere before year’s out are scripted and reality series that have already completed production. These include holdover series such as southern Gothic family soap “Filthy Rich” and the John Slattery-led A.I. thriller “NeXt,” the “Bad Boys” spin-off “L.A.’s Finest” which they acquired from Spectrum, and new installments of “Masterchef Junior” and “Cosmos”.
Its various animated series, which have all been renewed and remained in production, are also all set to return. Combined with wrestling and NFL football, the only question mark left is reality series “The Masked Singer” which hasn’t shot its fourth season. Most of FOX’s other shows that require a return to production are holding off until mid-season.
“9-1-1” and “9-1-1: Lone Star,” animated series “Duncanville,” “Beat Shazam,” and Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen” have all been renewed and are coming back. “The Resident,” “Prodigal Son” and “Last Man Standing” are also expected back pending deals. New shows to come mid-season will include the Mayim Bialik-led comedy “Call Me Kat,” and the animated comedies “The Great North” and “Housebroken”.
