“Benedetta,” “Blonde” Delayed Until 2021

Two long in the works biopics – Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde” and Paul Verhoeven’s “Benedetta” – have both been pushed to 2021 due to the global pandemic. This comes despite the films having already finished shooting before the pandemic shutdowns.

Verhoeven’s film, which stars Virginie Efira as a lesbian Italian nun during the 17th Century who was accused of fabricating miracles, was originally to play Cannes this year but producer Said Ben Said said on Twitter that the film’s release has been pushed to May 2021 in France – suggesting they’re holding it until Cannes next year.

Dominik’s film stars Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe in a film that follows a fictionalized version of the inner life. Adrien Brody and Bobby Cannavale co-star in the film which is now intended for a 2021 opening according to Indiewire. The film is likely to try for a festival play before its release.
