Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that the highly anticipated PlayStation exclusives “The Last of Us Part II” and “Ghost of Tsushima” are set to arrive in stores this Summer – specifically June 19th for ‘Last’ and July 17th for ‘Tsushima’.
In the announcement, Sony Interactive Entertainment Head of Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst expressed his gratitude for developers Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions for their work in getting the games turned around despite challenging times.
The developers are two of Sony’s biggest, creators of their signature “Uncharted” and “Infamous” franchises, with the games two of the year’s most anticipated titles.
However a major leak of content from “The Last of Us Part II” hit over the weekend with now deleted YouTube videos reportedly showing off major character arcs, the game’s full story, story progression reveals, level lists, and one possible (and controversial) ending of the game.
Polygon reports that the leak was likely internal and as a result of “intense and unsustainable working conditions” at Naughty Dog which have apparently hit breaking point.
Naughty Dog has acknowledged the early leaks and spoilers in a statement on Twitter, saying its “disappointing” to see the pre-release development footage and associated plot points circulating online but says “the final experience will be worth it” no matter what you see before then.
The first “The Last of Us” sold 17 million copies and is often labelled one of the greatest video games ever made. The sequel focuses on the character Ellie, now 19, protecting a Wyoming encampment from infected humans, a murderous homophobic religious cult called the Seraphites, and dealing with emotional turmoil she’s suffered.
It was recently announced that a series based upon the game was in development for HBO.
