Anthony McCarten, who has made a name for himself writing biopics like “The Darkest Hour,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “The Theory of Everything,” has signed up to pen and produce the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”.
The Whitney Houston Estate, Primary Wave and Grammy-winning music producer Clive Davis have teamed up for the project with negotiations underway with “The Photograph” helmer Stella Meghie to direct. The project will also benefit from the use of the late Houston’s many hit songs.
McCarten meanwhile has recently been scripting the Bee Gees film for Paramount, GK, Sister and Amblin and recently wrote the book for a stage musical about Neil Diamond.
The film aims to be a “joyous, emotional and heart-breaking celebration of the life and music of the greatest female R&B pop vocalist of all time.” Producers also claim it will be “very frank about the price that super-stardom exacted.”
Houston is the most awarded female music artist of all time, selling more than 200 million records worldwide.
