The upcoming “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” serves as a direct sequel to the original two films as opposed to a reboot like the 2016 film, but at the same time follows all-new characters with only cameos from the original stars.
Therefore there’s the obvious question as to how closely the film will follow its predecessors. The first trailer indicated a heavily nostalgic feel to the film, combined with a “Stranger Things”-esque tone of focusing heavily on kids and 1980s throwbacks.
Actor Finn Wolfhard, who stars in the film, tells NME that fans shouldn’t worry about the new film not being faithful: “Older Ghostbusters fans will find it’s a really, really faithful approach to the series. While young people, if not everyone, will find that, first and foremost, Ghostbusters is about family and the relationships that these people have made. It’s also really funny, so I’m really excited for people to see it.”
The story centers on a single mother who, with her two kids, moves to a farm in Oklahoma she inherited from the father she never knew. As time goes on, her children discover a connection between their family and the original Ghostbusters.
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts all appear in the film which remains set to be released on July 10th.
