Bong Joon Ho Wants To Do A Musical

Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon Ho, still riding high on his “Parasite” film win, spoke with Empire recently about what the future might hold for him.

Having done horror, thriller, sci-fi, two creature features, dark comedy and more, the South Korean auteur doesn’t have much left beyond a musical – something he tells the outlet he’s quite open for.

However in typical Bong fashion, he says if he were to do it then it would have to avoid the main complaint non-musical fans have with the genre:

“I would love to make a musical. Characters would begin singing, then think, ‘Oh my God, f–k this, this is too cheesy,’ and stop suddenly. There are amazing musical films, like Singin’ In The Rain. But when I watch them, I feel very embarrassed and start blushing. So it would have to be… different.”

Bong is still developing the six-hour HBO series companion piece to “Parasite” which will explore stories “that happen in between the sequences in the film”.
