Over 3000 Cinemas Closing In The U.S.

Thousands of cinema locations in North America are closing by tonight due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic according to the latest updates.

The Alamo Drafthouse has shuttered all their corporate-owned sites and all but one-franchise owned location in Virginia. Canada’s main chains – Cineplex Odeon and Landmark Cinemas – are also closed as well, shuttering until April 2nd.

This follows on from the second biggest chain on the continent, Regal Cinemas, announcing that as of tomorrow their 7,155 screens across 542 theaters were closing down. Famed arthouse chain Landmark Theatres is also closing all 49 locations for precautionary reasons as of tonight.

In addition, cinemas in Ohio, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington, Michigan, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Louisiana have all been shut down on top of the Los Angeles and New York closures announced yesterday. The one left that’s staying steadfastly open is AMC which plans to keep it that way in whatever town permits them to do so.

On Sunday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that public gatherings involving more than 50 people be called off for the next eight weeks.
