Directors Set For “Car,” “Cave” & “Stars” Tales

“John Wick” trilogy director Chad Stahelski is reportedly eyeing a new feature project described as a “high-concept spin capturing the spirit of the great car movies” along with having a “unique central relationship at its center”.

Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (“A Quiet Place”) will produce while Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) are penning the script. Stahelski also remains attached to a fourth ‘Wick’ and a “Highlander” reboot.

That’s not the only directorial news today though. Oscar-winning “Free Solo” directors Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi are attached to helm the Universal and Cavalry Media film about 2018’s Thailand cave rescue news story. Dana Brunetti and Matt DelPiano are producing.

Wes Tooke (“Midway”) is currently writing the screenplay about the Wild Boar boys soccer team, aged 11-16, who with their coach became trapped 1,000 meters below the surface by monsoon rains. They were ultimately rescued over the course of three days in July 2018.

Finally comes word that “Five Feet Apart” filmmaker Justin Baldoni will direct a feature adaptation of Katie Khan’s novel “Hold Back the Stars” for Lionsgate. Christy Hall pens the script while Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen produce.

The story of that focuses on a young man and a woman who revisit memories of their doomed love affair on a utopian Earth while trapped in the vast void of space with only 90 minutes of oxygen left.
