“Judge Judy” Ending After 25 Seasons

Judge Judith Sheindlin will end her blockbuster first-run syndicated series “Judge Judy” after 25 seasons on air – the series was launched all the way back in 1996. Sheindlin will make the announcement herself on “Ellen” today.

The final full season has yet to air and will remain in originals through the 2020-2021 TV season. After that, CBS Television Distribution will continue to offer “Judge Judy” repeats to stations.

Sheindlin isn’t retiring though, instead she plans to launch a new show titled “Judy Justice” though the format of that show is unknown.

She is one of the highest-paid stars on television, pulling in a whopping $47 million a year for “Judge Judy” and the end of the show represents a major cost saving for ViacomCBS. The series remains the No. 1 first-run syndicated program and is averaging ten million total viewers daily.
