Octavia Spencer is in talks to star alongside Anne Hathaway in Robert Zemeckis’ “The Witches” at Warner Bros. Pictures. In addition, newcomers Jahzir Bruno and Codie-Lei Eastick are in negotiations to join the cast.
Based on the 1973 novel, the film follows a seven-year-old boy (Bruno) who has a run-in with real-life witches. “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris is on board to co-write the script with Zemeckis.
The previous 1990 adaptation starred Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch, a role Hathaway is playing this time out. Spencer will play the grandmother of Bruno’s character, and Eastick is portraying another boy who becomes a victim of the Witches.
Zemeckis is producing with Jack Rapke, Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro.
