Appearing at a Las Vegas conference as part of the Citi TMT West Conference, Viacom CEO Bob Bakish reportedly congratulated Paramount Pictures for a successful turnaround with its films.
He specifically cited the “Transformers” franchise as an example, saying “Bumblebee” will be “solidly profitable” as opposed to its predecessor “Transformers: The Last Knight” which opened in the summer of 2017 and lost more than $100 million.
How Bakish comes to that conclusion is unclear. “Bumblebee” currently has a box-office haul of around $311 million from a budget of a bit over $100 million. That’s around half the cost of ‘The Last Knight,’ but has also made only half of that film’s box-office ($605 million) so far. It will definitely be profitable for the company, and certainly it’s the most critically acclaimed entry in the series to date.
