J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is set to close out the Skywalker saga, wrapping up not just the current trilogy that began with ‘Force Awakens’ but the whole nine-film arc that started with the original “Star Wars”.
After that, the franchise is taking a break before coming back with two new trilogies in mind – one from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and the other from Rian Johnson – with each said to be in completely different times and locations.
Even so, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy has previously indicated that some characters from the current trilogy like Rey, Finn or Poe could return sometime down the line. Speaking with Buzzfeed’s AM to DM this week, Rey actress Daisy Ridley confirmed that as far as she’s aware she’s done with the films and won’t be in the new ones:
“I mean, I can say I’m not in the next trilogy. No. I think, ’cause Rian always said…if it’s the Rian one, or it’s the guys that did Game of Thrones. I’m not sure. Whichever one it was, they always said it was going to be a separate story. So I’m not. No.”
For now, she’s focused on other things including the eventual publicity tour at the end of the year for ‘Rise of Skywalker’. Asked on The Tonight Show this week if she was happy with the ending, she said: “Yeah, it’s epic, it’s very exciting.”
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” opens in December.
