The “Fast and Furious” franchise has previously teased a larger villain lurking in the background. “Furious 6” had Luke Evans’ Owen Shaw as the main villain, but introduced Jason Statham as his brother Deckard Shaw in a cameo at the end before that character went on to serve as the seventh film’s antagonist.
Charlize Theron’s Cipher is revealed in the eighth film to have had a hand in manipulating some of Dominic Toretto’s life in the previously films as well. Now a new report at That Hashtag Show indicates the upcoming spin-off film “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” will be doing the same.
While Idris Elba stars as the film’s main villain Brixton, the site says the film also sports a new background bad guy pulling the strings in essentially an uncredited cameo ahead of a potential larger appearance in a future sequel (not unlike Ed Norton’s “Battle Angel Alita” role). That person? “John Wick” star Keanu Reeves.
The site suggests Reeves’ character is somehow tied to Elba’s Brixton and their source suggests he will be revealed towards the end of the movie – be it within the main narrative or in an end-credits stinger. For now though, the potential casting is pure rumor and Reeves’ name is not credited anywhere on the film.
In the movie hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative are up against cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) who gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever. These two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.
“Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” opens in cinemas on August 2nd.
