Two decades after teaming on “To Die For,” actor Joaquin Phoenix and director Gus Van Sant are to reunite for the long in-development biopic of quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan.
Based on Callahan’s 1989 autobiography “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot,” the current incarnation of the project is setup at Iconoclast and Anonymous Content.
Callahan was paralyzed in a car accident at age twenty-one and ultimately used his drawings, which often tackled taboo topics, as a form of therapy. His work was published in the New Yorker and Playboy before his death in 2010.
Charles-Marie Anthonioz, Steve Golin, Mourad Belkeddar, and Nicolas Lhermitte will produce.
