Peter Capaldi To Leave “Doctor Who”

Speaking with BBC Radio 2, actor Peter Capaldi has just announced that he will exit the long running science fiction series this Christmas after three full seasons in the role.

Of the upcoming tenth season, the actor says “[I]t will be my last… This will be the end for me… I feel it’s sort of time for me to move on to different challenges.” When he will exit, be it either the season finale or more likely this year’s Christmas special, is unclear.

Capaldi’s exit is timed with the exit of longtime showrunner and executive producer Steven Moffat who came onboard in the fifth season when Matt Smith started his run in the role.

Chris Chibnall takes over as producer on the show which will likely undergo the usual mini-reboot that comes with each new Doctor. The casting of a 13th Doctor will be revealed before the year’s end.

The tenth season of “Doctor Who” will premiere in April 15th.
