The creative team behind the BAFTA-winning Benedict Cumberbatch-fronted limited series “Patrick Melrose” are in active discussions about bringing it back for a second season.
The property was originally set up as a five-episode run on Showtime and Sky Atlantic with each episode of last year’s run based on one of Edward St Aubyn’s five novels and adapted by David Nicholls.
The series centered on Melrose who struggled to overcome the damage inflicted by a horribly abusive father (Hugo Weaving) and a mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) who tacitly condoned his behavior. By the end he got sober, buried his parents and ultimately found redemption.
Anna Madeley, Blythe Danner, Allison Williams, Pip Torrens, Jessica Raine, Prasanna Puwanarajah, Holliday Grainger, Indira Varma and Celia Imrie co-starred.
Cumberbatch and the producers are reportedly now looking at ways to carry on the story with Two Cities Television, Little Island Productions and SunnyMarch producing the new iteration.
