The original first teaser trailer for Sam Raimi’s 2002 “Spider-Man,” one that was pulled from distribution in September 2001 due to it featuring the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center prominently, has come back online in a big way.
The clip has been restored in full 4K and color corrected by Youtube user ‘Yoshi Killer 2S’ who uploaded it this week. The scene in question was specifically shot for the teaser and was never intended to be in the film. The final film also edited out any scenes featuring the Twin Towers following the 9/11 terrorist attack.
A copy of the teaser has been online but only in terrible quality, whereas this version was “scanned from a 35mm print in 4K” and then had a new color grading. Raimi’s “Spider-Man,” starring Tobey Maguire, made $821 million worldwide from a $139 million budget.
